BlackRock, the largest asset manager in the world, has included its iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) in a select group of investment themes for 2025. This group also consists of an ETF tracking short-term Treasury bills and another focused on the prominent “Magnificent 7” U.S. tech companies, which include Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Nvidia, and Tesla.

IBIT Sees $25 Billion in Inflows Despite Bitcoin Price Declines

IBIT has garnered more than $25 billion in net inflows in 2025 alone, positioning it as the sixth-best ETF in terms of inflows, even while it experiences negative performance for the year. Bitcoin's price has dropped about 30% from its peak in October, yet this decline hasn't dampened investor enthusiasm.

Nate Geraci, president of NovaDius Wealth Management, remarked that BlackRock’s focus on IBIT signifies the firm’s confidence in Bitcoin despite market fluctuations. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas echoed this sentiment, suggesting that attracting $25 billion during a down year indicates much higher potential inflows in a more favorable market.

The recent inflows add to the approximately $37 billion that IBIT accumulated in 2024, bringing the total net inflows since its inception to around $62.5 billion, according to Farside Investors. This impressive figure places IBIT well ahead of competitors, with its inflows exceeding those of the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund—the closest rival—by more than five times.

BlackRock Expands Its Crypto ETF Lineup

BlackRock is not stopping at just the spot Bitcoin fund; it is actively expanding its crypto-related ETF offerings. In September, the firm filed for a Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, which aims to generate income by selling covered call options on Bitcoin futures. This move indicates a shift towards products designed to produce revenue from digital assets.

Despite IBIT being the only ETF among the top flow leaders to show a year-to-date loss of about 9.6%, it has still attracted around $25.4 billion in net inflows. This places it as a notable outlier in the 2025 ETF flow rankings, ranking sixth despite the downturn.

Strong Demand for Ethereum Offerings

BlackRock has experienced considerable interest in its Ethereum-focused products as well. The iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) has seen over $9.1 billion in inflows this year, bringing total inflows close to $12.7 billion. Additionally, in November, BlackRock filed to introduce an iShares Staked Ethereum ETF in response to new regulations that provide issuers with more leeway to add staking features.

While expanding its cryptocurrency offerings, BlackRock has not yet engaged with the recent trend of altcoin ETFs that focus on assets such as Solana, XRP, and Litecoin.
