Pakistan Accelerates Efforts to Regulate Its Crypto Market

Pakistan has intensified its initiatives to formalize its digital asset sector over the past year.

The nation has set up the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA), permitted well-known exchanges like Binance and HTX to function within its borders, and is considering the establishment of a Bitcoin reserve.

In a quest to draw in foreign investments and enhance market liquidity, officials are also exploring the tokenization of real-world assets. Zhao believes that tokenization could be pivotal to Pakistan's strategy, especially concerning public markets.

When discussing the possibility of tokenizing the stock market, Zhao noted that it presents a clear benefit: "Which country wouldn't want the global population to invest in their stocks?" He highlighted that tokenized equities would enable international investors to directly engage with Pakistani companies.

He urged quick action from policymakers, pointing out that countries that promptly adopt tokenization frameworks are likely to achieve long-lasting advantages. “The nations that implement these systems early on will gain the most,” Zhao explained.

In addition to discussing national policies, Zhao spotlighted the opportunities that cryptocurrency affords individuals and small enterprises.

He asserted that blockchain technology has significantly lower barriers to entry for budding entrepreneurs compared to traditional banking or artificial intelligence, which often demand substantial investment, access to data, and existing infrastructure.

“Blockchain is one of the best environments for entrepreneurs,” Zhao declared. “The blockchain will never reject you.”

However, he did emphasize that long-term success should be built on a foundation of education and support. Binance Achieves Anti-Money Laundering Registration in Pakistan

Earlier this month, Binance secured anti-money laundering (AML) registration from PVARA, marking an important step forward as the crypto exchange aims to acquire a full Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license in the country.

This approval positions Binance on a phased compliance-driven route to full authorization, aligning with the standards of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
