Furthermore, Standard Chartered is developing a Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin in conjunction with Animoca Brands and HKT, aimed at enhancing the city’s digital payment infrastructure for international trade.

Winters aligns with an increasing number of finance leaders who are placing significant bets on tokenization. For instance, Robinhood's CEO, Vlad Tenev, described tokenization as a "freight train" heading towards mainstream adoption within five years. Similarly, BlackRock's CEO, Larry Fink, suggested that tokenized securities will eventually cover all asset classes, transforming the landscape of global investing.

SC Ventures to Introduce a $250 Million Digital Asset Fund

According to reports, Standard Chartered's venture branch, SC Ventures, intends to introduce a $250 million fund in 2026. This fund will focus on digital assets and the innovation of financial services, with support from investors in the Middle East.

During the Money 20/20 fintech conference in Riyadh, Gautam Jain, a member of SC Ventures, indicated that the fund will concentrate on blockchain technology, tokenization, and other regulated digital asset ventures as the firm expands its fintech reach. In addition to this, SC Ventures plans to launch a $100 million fund aimed at Africa and is also contemplating the establishment of its inaugural venture debt fund.

Since its inception in 2018, SC Ventures has rapidly expanded its presence, establishing operations in Saudi Arabia earlier this year and targeting the creation of a domestic fund focusing on minority stakes and new business initiatives by 2026.

Earlier this year, Standard Chartered secured a license in Luxembourg for crypto custody services under the European Union's MiCA framework, following the successful launch of crypto custody services in the UAE after acquiring a DFSA license in Dubai.
