Zcash's Recent Surge

Zcash, a cryptocurrency that emphasizes user privacy, has seen a remarkable 30% surge over the past 24 hours after Arthur Hayes, a prominent figure in the crypto space, forecasted that its price could reach $10,000. Following Hayes's "vibe check" post on platform X on Sunday, Zcash jumped from $272 to a high of $355, outperforming all other tokens within the top 50 by market capitalization during this period.

This isn’t the first occasion where Hayes’s forecasts have triggered significant price movements. At the WebX 2025 conference held in Tokyo in August, he claimed that Hyperliquid’s HYPE token could rise by an astonishing 126 times over the following three years, which led to a quick 4% increase in HYPE's value.

Hayes' Influence on Market Sentiment

AB Kuai Dong, a crypto trader and contributor to Binance Square, speculated in a post on X that Zcash's price increase was largely a result of Hayes’s endorsement. He noted that the backing from such a "legendary Silicon Valley investor" prompted many traders to join in, igniting a fervent FOMO (fear of missing out) within the market.

Simultaneously, a Twitter user named Clemente, a crypto trader, expressed that he was compelled to invest in Zcash due to overwhelming FOMO, saying he couldn’t resist joining this rally.

The Spotlight on Privacy Tokens

Another trader, known as JonnyJpegs, suggested that the surge was driven by a growing desire among investors to acquire privacy-oriented tokens as governments worldwide tighten regulations against encryption and privacy technologies.

Zcash has experienced a remarkable 490% increase over the past 30 days and surpassed a market capitalization of $5 billion for the first time on Sunday, according to CoinGecko.

Zcash, launched in October 2016, employs an encrypted ledger with zero-knowledge proofs, allowing transactions to be either publicly viewable or completely private, concealing both the identity of the sender and receiver as well as the transaction amount.

Fellow privacy coin Monero, which leads in the privacy coin market by capitalization, also saw a 3.6% increase in value over the last 24 hours, reaching $346. However, Monero remains delisted or restricted on most major exchanges, including Binance and OKX, along with several trading platforms in Europe.
