The recent split stems from allegations of "malicious governance" within Bootstrap, which oversees the ECC. This situation has resulted in the entire staff of ECC resigning to establish a new, independent firm, marking a critical point in the organization's history.

Josh Swihart, who became the CEO of ECC in late 2023, described the decision as a necessary response to ongoing disputes with a majority of the Bootstrap board. In a post on X, he explained that board members—Zaki Manian, Christina Garman, Alan Fairless, and Michelle Lai—changed employment terms drastically, making it unfeasible for the team to effectively do their jobs.

Swihart referred to this as a "constructive discharge," suggesting that working conditions were worsened to the point where staff had to resign. On January 7, the entire ECC team exited.
