Bitcoin ETF Demand Drops After Extended Selling Period

These monthly outflows highlight the longest period of losses since the US SEC approved Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024. Observers in the market have pointed out that the ongoing withdrawals suggest a declining demand for Bitcoin-related products.

Supporting this trend, data from CryptoQuant shows that the 12 Bitcoin funds have experienced a notable exit, losing around 4,595 BTC since the beginning of 2026. This figure clearly indicates a significant change in investor sentiment, especially when compared to the record inflows seen in prior years. In fact, during the same timeframe last year, BTC products attracted nearly 40,000 BTC.

Market experts attribute this outflow trend to “narrative exhaustion,” which has coincided with Bitcoin's mediocre price performance. Since peaking at over $126,000 in October 2025, BTC's price has dropped by more than 37%.

In light of these developments, Jim Bianco, the founder of Bianco Research, has commented that the era of rapid institutional adoption for Bitcoin might have reached its peak. “Markets are discounting mechanisms. They price the narrative long before the event occurs,” Bianco stated.

He emphasized that Bitcoin's entry into the traditional finance space spurred a 400% rally, starting from the initial filings in 2023 to the political changes of late 2024. However, he characterized the surge to $126,000 in late 2025 as a “zombie rally,” propelled by residual momentum instead of new investments.

Bitcoin Price Trends Since 2023

According to Bianco, the current market's indifference is further apparent as it fails to react to typically bullish news. Even favorable events, such as the appointment of crypto-friendly individuals to economic roles, have not prompted a market recovery.

As a result, Bianco believes that the “adoption story” is now fully incorporated into market expectations, returning Bitcoin to its nature as a high-volatility risk asset. This transition leaves ETF investors confronted with the reality of a market that is now maturing and, currently, retracting.
