The announcement of Warsh's appointment caused a wave of risk aversion that affected markets beyond cryptocurrencies. Equities dropped, while traditional safe havens like gold and silver continued to retract from their recent highs. Traders began to reassess the Fed's likely policy direction under Warsh's leadership.

Markets are now pricing in a higher likelihood of earlier policy normalization or tighter conditions, which has negatively impacted non-yielding assets. The increased margin requirements in futures markets have further accelerated the unwinding of leveraged positions, according to QCP.

Bitcoin has since managed to stabilize above the $74,500 mark, which aligns with cycle lows observed in 2025. However, options markets indicate a cautious approach, with positioning still favoring put protection. Demand for downside hedges has decreased compared to previous market stresses.

QCP highlighted that during the November drop from $107,000 to around $80,500, the hedging activity was much more aggressive than what is currently observed in the mid-$70,000 range, suggesting that some low-exposure trades have been cleared out.

Despite this stabilization, analysts have cautioned that the price action remains susceptible to further declines. Momentum indicators are still trending downward, and resistance may limit upside potential, making the market vulnerable to additional liquidation events if current support levels fail.

"In this current environment, the market will likely focus on whether institutional buying re-emerges, especially with Strategy’s average cost basis around $76,000, alongside any easing of geopolitical tensions, particularly involving Iran," QCP remarked.

"Additionally, Fed communication will be crucial, and any comments from Chair-designate Warsh that temper expectations for tightening could act as a stabilizing force," the analysts added.

Bitcoin's $77K Drop: An Indicator of Cycle Low?

The drop of Bitcoin to around $77,000 over the weekend may indicate a potential cycle low, according to analyst PlanC. He suggested that this movement resembles a capitulation-style low rather than signaling the start of a prolonged decline.

After touching that level, Bitcoin quickly stabilized and bounced back to around $78,600; however, it remains over 11% lower for the month and approximately 38% beneath its peak of around $126,100 in October.

PlanC compared the recent downturn to prior declines that preceded significant recoveries, including the market low in 2018, the COVID crash in March 2020, and the sharp drops following the collapses of FTX and Terra-Luna.

He estimated that the bottom for the current cycle is likely between $75,000 and $80,000, arguing that this movement could signify a final shakeout within an ongoing bull market cycle.
