According to JPMorgan analysts, Bitcoin's price trajectory is currently less impacted by miners and more by the financial resilience of Strategy, which is the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin globally. This shift comes as mining pressures and volatility in the market continue.

In a report led by managing director Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou, JPMorgan identified two major factors influencing Bitcoin's price: a recent decline in Bitcoin's network hashrate and mining difficulty, alongside the increasing focus on Strategy’s balance sheet and its capacity to retain its Bitcoin holdings amid market fluctuations.

High-Cost Miners Facing Challenges

The reduction in hashrate is a result of several factors, including China reaffirming its ban on private mining and high-cost miners outside of China retreating due to the decrease in Bitcoin prices and soaring electricity costs, which are squeezing profit margins.

JPMorgan now estimates that the cost to produce Bitcoin is approximately $90,000, down from $94,000 just a month ago. This figure is based on an electricity cost of $0.05 per kilowatt-hour, where a $0.01 increase in electricity would raise production costs by about $18,000 for those miners operating at higher costs.

Bitcoin Mining Challenges

With Bitcoin trading around $92,000, it remains close to its estimated production cost, putting persistent selling pressure on miners. As margins tighten, many high-cost producers have recently had to liquidate some of their Bitcoin holdings to stay afloat.

Despite such challenges, JPMorgan states that miners are no longer the primary influence on Bitcoin's next significant price movement. The focus has shifted to Strategy's ability to sustain its Bitcoin position and avoid being forced into sales.

Strategy’s current enterprise-value-to-Bitcoin-holdings ratio is at 1.13, indicating that the combined market value of its debt, preferred stock, and equity is relative to the market value of its Bitcoin treasury.

In November, it managed to add 8,178 BTC, marking its largest purchase since July, which brings its total holdings to approximately 650,000 BTC. Its basic market capitalization is around $54 billion, while its enterprise value sits near $69 billion.
