Introduction of BlackRock's Staked Ethereum ETF

On Thursday, BlackRock unveiled the iShares Staked Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHB) on Nasdaq. This ETF aims to offer investors access to spot ether while potentially generating income through staking a portion of its ether assets.

With the addition of the ETHB fund, BlackRock expands its digital asset offerings, which already include prominent products like the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) and the iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA).

According to NewsBTC, BlackRock filed an S-1 form with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the ETHB fund back in December. The registration indicated that the fund plans to stake between 70% to 90% of its Ethereum holdings and distribute staking rewards to investors at least quarterly.

Investors will receive 82% of the staking rewards, while the remaining 18% will be allocated among the trust, custodians, and staking service providers. For its ETH holdings, BlackRock has selected Coinbase Custody Trust as the custodian, with Anchorage Digital Bank serving as an alternative. The cash holdings custodian and administrator for the Trust is the Bank of New York Mellon, as outlined in the fund’s prospectus.

Stability of ETH Price Amid Breakout Concerns

In response to the news, ETH’s price surged above the $2,090 mark, reaching a one-week high of $2,095, before experiencing a slight pullback. Analyst Ted Pillows noted that despite the market's volatility, the cryptocurrency has maintained the crucial psychological barrier of $2,000 for the past three days.

“The macro uncertainty is still present, but Ethereum shows overall strength,” he mentioned, suggesting that Ethereum needs to regain the important $2,150 level for a potential rally. He forecasted that if this level is reclaimed, Ethereum could experience a rapid 10%-15% increase.

Rekt Capital pointed out a significant threshold on ETH’s weekly and monthly charts. As previously noted, ETH is currently testing its multi-year upward trend, a structural support that has remained intact since mid-2022.

ETH Multi-Year Uptrend

Ethereum has closed below its multi-year support level for four consecutive weeks, raising concerns that this level might now serve as resistance as of March’s monthly close. The recent weekly closes suggest that the market may be re-evaluating this key support level.

“Structurally, this behavior resembles the early stages of a breakdown, where the price loses support and then rallies back into it, treating the level as resistance,” the analyst explained, although he emphasized that a breakdown has not been confirmed yet.

Thus, Ethereum could invalidate this bearish scenario if it closes the week above the multi-year uptrend and successfully tests it as support. A successful reclaim could pave the way for further upward movement towards the green resistance area above, which has historically been a significant pivot point in Ethereum’s broader trend.
