Zcash, on the other hand, constitutes a mere fraction of this total. However, Pandl asserts that this gap may not be an inherent limitation.

“Bitcoin was the first decentralized digital currency and remains the largest by market capitalization,” he explains. “Yet, there are other blockchains that also serve a ‘digital currency’ purpose.” Within this competitive landscape, Grayscale identifies Zcash as uniquely positioned to gain market traction over time.

This sets the stage: if demand for private, censorship-resistant payments rises—whether from individuals, institutions, or specific regulatory environments—Zcash will thrive in an area where Bitcoin faces limitations. Rather than competing in every transaction scenario, Zcash focuses on those where transparency is a barrier.

Pandl acknowledges the inherent trade-offs, stating that Zcash is “smaller and more volatile than Bitcoin and, consequently, carries a higher risk profile.” The optimistic valuation is contingent on a reassignment of market share rather than a guaranteed demand increase.

Cypherpunk Technologies’ CIO Will McEvoy referred to Zcash as “the most mispriced asset in crypto,” while Alliance DAO co-founder Qiao Wang dubbed ZEC as “the last opportunity for a 1000x return in cryptocurrency.” Additionally, BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes predicted ZEC could reach $1,000 as a “preliminary target,” with a long-range goal of hitting $10,000.
