In the fourth quarter, Bitcoin has underperformed despite previous bullish expectations—a time traditionally favorable for the cryptocurrency. The market crash on October 10 significantly impacted BTC's performance at the quarter's start, prompting observers to question the ongoing weakness.

"This is an insane level of manipulation," Ash Crypto remarked on Twitter.

In another analysis, Ash expressed that Bitcoin's drop from $126,000 to $80,000 goes beyond a regular market correction. He indicated that following the October crash and widespread liquidation:

“If it were merely a leverage issue, the downturn would have been short-lived with a quicker rebound. Instead, the market has continued to decline without significant recovery. This suggests a few major institutions manipulating the market, liquidating both long and short positions. Rumors also suggest that several large funds faced significant losses on October 10 and are selling BTC to recoup those losses,” he noted.

Moreover, another analyst pointed to Bitcoin's price fluctuation over the weekend as further evidence of manipulation. It was reported that the cryptocurrency briefly dipped from approximately $89,700 to $87,700, contributing to around $171 million in long position liquidations.

Within hours, Bitcoin rebounded sharply to near $91,200, resulting in an additional $75 million in short position liquidations. "This is another example of manipulation during low-liquidity weekends, aimed at wiping out both leveraged longs and shorts," Bull Theory analyzed.

Interestingly, market analysts have noticed that Bitcoin often faces sharp declines around 10 a.m., coinciding with the opening of the US market. This pattern has been observed since early November and reflects similar movements seen earlier in the year.

The consistency of these declines suggests possible coordinated actions, rather than random market responses. Bull Theory has identified Jane Street, a prominent high-frequency trading firm, as a potential culprit. Jane Street reportedly holds $2.5 billion in BlackRock’s IBIT ETF, marking it as one of its largest positions.

“When examining the price movements, the pattern is too consistent to overlook: a rapid drop shortly after the market opens, followed by a gradual recovery. This indicates classic high-frequency trading. Thus, much of the recent BTC sell-off appears to stem from manipulation by a single significant entity,” the analysis clarified.

The suspected strategy employed by these traders is straightforward: sell BTC at market open, create liquidity pockets, and then repurchase at reduced prices. This cycle can be repeated, allowing them to profit from predictable market volatility while amassing substantial Bitcoin holdings.

However, there are currently no regulations in crypto, allowing these practices to continue until a Market Structure Bill is passed.
