Bitcoin has faced significant challenges over recent months, and new data on the U.S. producer price index (PPI) is adding to the uncertainty.

Currently, Bitcoin (BTC) has been experiencing pressure for the last five months, standing nearly 48% below its peak price of $126,000. As of now, it is trading around $65,700. The latest inflation figures from the U.S. indicate that producer prices rose more than anticipated in January, contributing to this downward trend.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the January 2026 Producer Price Index report, which lays out the prices received by domestic producers for goods and services. The report indicated that the headline PPI saw a 0.5% rise month-over-month, exceeding the +0.3% forecast from Reuters and the consensus from Dow Jones. Additionally, the December figure has been revised upward to +0.4%, suggesting that inflationary pressures were already in play.

Meanwhile, the Core PPI, which excludes food and energy costs, increased by 0.8% in January, significantly surpassing expectations of +0.3% and outpacing the previous month’s increase of +0.6%. According to Bloomberg, this represents the most substantial core monthly rise since July. Year-over-year, the headline PPI climbed 2.9%, slightly lower than December's +3.0%, primarily due to base effects. CNBC also noted that core wholesale prices surged to 3.6% year-on-year.

Analysts suggest parts of this report could influence the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation metric, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index, potentially pushing core PCE towards around 3.1%, remaining above the target level.
