Mitchell Amador, CEO of the blockchain security firm Immunefi, highlights, “Unless we bring hack rates below 1%, stablecoins will remain unbankable, and we’ll be subsidizing cybercrime for decades.” Current losses in the sector amount to 3.6%–4% of total value locked in on-chain finance.

Chainalysis has reported that $40 billion in stablecoin-related illicit activities have occurred since 2022, underscoring vulnerabilities in existing infrastructures, even as legislation such as the GENIUS and CLARITY Acts seek to create regulatory pathways.

He pointed out that crypto exchanges and DeFi platforms now offer competitive yields exceeding 4-5% through incentives and lending strategies. “Consumers discovering 4-5% yields on stablecoin deposits versus minimal returns from traditional savings accounts will force banks to either enhance their offers or accept the shift in deposits,” he remarked.
