During the interview, he responded to claims made by Devin Nunes, chair of the President’s intelligence advisory board and CEO of Trump Media, who alleged that JPMorgan had debanked his organization. Nunes reported that over 400 individuals and entities associated with Trump had their banking records subpoenaed by special prosecutor Jack Smith as part of an ongoing investigation.

Jack Mallers, CEO of the Bitcoin payments platform Strike, also claimed JPMorgan closed his personal accounts without explanation last month, raising concerns about what many are calling Operation Chokepoint 2.0. Additionally, Houston Morgan, marketing head at the non-custodial crypto trading platform ShapeShift, shared a similar experience last November.

"People need to mature and stop fabricating stories," Dimon remarked. "I cannot discuss individual accounts. We do not debank people based on their religious or political beliefs."

In an interview aired on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures," Dimon highlighted that the bank has terminated services for clients across various demographics, insisting that political views have never influenced these decisions.

Advocacy for Change in Debanking Practices

The cryptocurrency industry has encountered account closures and banking service denials for several years, leading many insiders to assert that these actions are part of a politically motivated effort to restrict the growth of digital assets.

Nonetheless, Dimon expressed his discontent with debanking practices and called for a reform of the reporting requirements that can precipitate these actions. "It's extremely unfriendly to customers,” he stated. “We are debanking individuals based on unverified suspicions or negative media attention."

In August, former President Donald Trump directed banking regulators to investigate allegations of debanking from the crypto community and Conservative groups.

JPMorgan's Recommendations and Compliance

Dimon pointed out that one rule mandates banks to provide information to the government when subpoenaed, but he stated that JPMorgan has made proposals aimed at minimizing the necessity of such reporting and, by extension, reducing the frequency of debanking.

"We do not provide information to the government unless required to by subpoena," Dimon explained. "I have been complying with subpoenas under multiple administrations, many of which I do not agree with.”

He emphasized that government actions often frustrate banks, advocating for a calm approach to address these issues instead of placing blame on bankers caught in complex situations.

Additionally, Dimon asserted that both major political parties often exert pressure on banks in similar ways.
