In October 2023, Morgan Stanley opened up crypto investments to all its wealth management clients. According to CNBC, the bank notified their financial advisers that from October 15, all clients—regardless of risk tolerance or account type (including retirement accounts)—could invest in cryptocurrencies.

Previously, access to crypto funds was restricted to clients who had an aggressive risk appetite and at least $1.5 million in investable assets, seeking exposure via taxable brokerage accounts. The policy change eliminates these restrictions and allows all clients to include crypto investments in their portfolios with the guidance of an adviser.

Morgan Stanley is also preparing to enable cryptocurrency trading for its E-Trade clients in the first half of 2026, which could open up access to as much as $1.3 trillion in trading volume.
