Announced on August 27, Horizon marks a significant advancement for Aave, bridging the gap between institutional finance and decentralized finance (DeFi). This new platform allows qualified institutions to utilize tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) as collateral for stablecoin loans, facilitating liquidity access without the need to sell tokenized bonds or treasuries. Horizon is one of Aave's largest steps toward merging institutional finance with decentralized finance. While the concept of tokenized RWAs has been developing, they have not yet been fully integrated into DeFi. Horizon changes this by enabling qualified institutions to directly use RWAs as collateral for stablecoin loans.

This innovative approach gives institutions new access to liquidity without needing to liquidate tokenized bonds or treasuries. Simultaneously, stablecoin lenders can take advantage of new yield opportunities associated with institutional borrowers.

Based on the Aave Protocol v3.3, Horizon ensures compliance with legal requirements while maintaining a non-custodial infrastructure.
