This upgrade aims to restore that balance in fee structures and ensure that layer 2 data pricing is fair, especially during low utilization periods.”

For users, the initial results are quite straightforward: lower gas fees and reduced network congestion. “We’ve noticed a drop in the pending transaction queue,” Berryman stated, referencing changes activated prior to the fork. "Since starting in 2015, I can’t recall encountering gas prices as low as they are now on Ethereum."

Any upgrade affecting data availability raises concerns about the requirements for node operations and home stakers. The Fusaka upgrade is crafted to ensure it remains manageable for consumer-grade hardware, validated through extensive testnet trials to guarantee that increased blob capacity does not unintentionally exclude smaller operators.

“It’s essential to scale without undermining our core values,” Berryman remarked. “Home stakers play a crucial role in the network. We aim to keep the upgrade within reach of what a home staker can effectively manage, and Fusaka honors that principle.”

Berry noted that the true measure of success won’t be defined by dramatic numbers in media headlines, but rather by consistent reliability and increasing usage. “First and foremost, the upgrade’s deployment must be secure and seamless. Then, over the following months, we hope to witness increased usage of network capacity, with more blobs reaching their targets and higher gas consumption per block. Simply adding capacity is different from the ecosystem adapting to it.”
