The announcement was made on Thursday through a post on X, where the MegaETH team admitted to errors during the rollout.

“Execution was sloppy and expectations weren’t aligned with our goal of preloading collateral to guarantee 1:1 USDm conversion at mainnet,” stated MegaETH.

Problems During USDm Pre-Deposit Launch

MegaETH initiated USDm pre-deposits on Tuesday with a starting limit of $250 million. However, the launch faced multiple interruptions right from the beginning.

A technical glitch involving a third-party bridge provider made the service unavailable for about an hour, causing users to anticipate the resumption of deposits.

Once the platform was back online, the initial $250 million limit was hit within minutes, and the team promptly announced an increase of the deposit cap to $1 billion. This change quickly complicated the situation.

While attempting to raise the cap, a multisignature transaction responsible for contract parameters was incorrectly set up. Instead of needing three out of four approvals, the transaction required all four signatures.

This error permitted an external party to execute the queued transaction nearly 34 minutes before the bridge was intended to reopen.

As a result, deposits recommenced earlier than intended and swiftly exceeded $400 million.

In reaction, MegaETH tried to manage the scenario by reducing the cap to $400 million and then later adjusting it to $500 million. Ultimately, the project abandoned all plans to increase the limit to $1 billion.

Following this incident, MegaETH announced it would return all participant funds. The refund contract is currently undergoing an audit, with repayments expected to commence shortly after the review.

“Depositor contributions will not be forgotten,” the team confirmed.

Future Plans for MegaETH

Looking ahead, MegaETH intends to relaunch its conversion bridge between USDC and USDm prior to the release of its Frontier mainnet, which will serve as the network's beta phase.

The objective, as stated by the team, is to establish stable liquidity before a broader rollout.

Accelerated Performance with MegaETH

MegaETH is an Ethereum Layer-2 network aimed at enhancing transaction speed and reducing costs for blockchain applications, positioning itself alongside rivals like Base, Polygon, and Arbitrum.

While Ethereum handles approximately 30 transactions per second, MegaETH claims it can reach a theoretical capacity of up to 100,000 transactions per second (TPS), with sub-millisecond latency and fees below $0.01.

The project operates on a proof-of-stake model with a performance-based system to determine staking rewards.
